A prominent painter, draftsman, muralist, theatrical designer and educator,
Rene Emile Quentin was born in Paris, France and died in Providence, Rhode
Island. He lived and worked in Paris (1860 – 1885 and 1887); Bejaia, Algeria
(c.1886); Montreal, Quebec (c.1888 – 1893); Ottawa, Ontario (c. 1889);
Victoria, British, Columbia (c.1893 – 1896); Nanaimo, British Columbia
(c.1895); and Boston, Massachusetts (c.1897 – 1914). His works were exhibited
at the Art Association of Montreal (now Montreal Museum of Fine Arts) and at
the Paris Salon. His portraits and murals are in the collections of the Parliament
Buildings of Canada and the Parliament Buildings of British Columbia, as well
